OUTLINE FACTS blah blah blah
- Born in New York City to a wealthy family. Her father was a businessman and her mother was a lawyer. She is the middle child, and has an older brother and younger sister.
- Attended Columbia University's School of Nursing and received her license to work as an advanced practice nurse. As she continued her schooling, she worked as a RN at New York–Presbyterian Hospital. Her parents were never totally happy with her career choices- they thought she should have followed in one of their footsteps- but allowed her to pursue what made her happy.
- In school, she always put a lot of effort into her studies, so much that her friends would have to drag her away from her books and convince her to have some fun. That isn't to say that she didn't know how to have fun, she just believed that she'd be able to enjoy herself that much more once she knew all of her work was done. This attitude continued into her college days, and a friend of hers tried to force her into loosening up and having fun by setting her up on blind dates. Every date was a disaster until she met Joseph. It didn't take long for her fall for him. Of course he was handsome, and of course it was the first thing she noticed about him, but he stirred something within her whenever they were together, whenever they talked and shared ideas and thoughts. He was everything she ever wanted, and more. She had never thought herself as one of those girls that let themselves become so consumed by a guy, but with him, it was inevitable. She willingly became the girl she had always rolled her eyes over. And when he proposed, he had barely gotten the question out when she said yes. It was the best day of her life, up until their wedding day took its place.
- When Joseph got a new job, she was thrilled for him, and happy to uproot and find a new home with him in Seattle. Everything was new and exciting and she knew they'd make a good life there, start a family. What she didn't expect was for him to be gone so much, or for her to feel so far from him. Her loneliness drove her into the arms of another man, a friend of hers at the hospital where she worked. It happened a few times, spread out over a couple of months until she put an end to it. For all of her book smarts, her intelligence hadn't been quick enough to make her see that she needed to talk to Joseph about how she was feeling. Unfortunately, stupidity caught her first, and the guilt and shame she felt from the affair left her feeling worse than she had in the very beginning. To finalize the end of her affair, she transferred to another hospital.
- She broke her own heart when she began the affair, but it broke all over again when Joseph found out and immediately moved out of their home. Now, they only speak on a monthly basis to take care of the bills, which is akin to reopening her own self-inflicted wounds over and over again. At the moment, she wants nothing more than to fix what she broke, to show him that she still loves him and wants to be a better person and a better wife for him. She just doesn't know how to tell him, and honestly, she's afraid to. Knowing he's so angry with her, she isn't sure that he would want her back, or if he even still loves her.
- The only person aware of what's going on is her brother, and he kept her secret from their parents until she had no choice but to tell them. It was hard to avoid the subject when she flew home for Thanksgiving without Joseph. To her relief, her family was supportive, but fully aware that the entire situation is her fault. Still, they encouraged her to at least try, that she would only hate herself more if she let him slip away. Since returning home, she's been trying to gather the courage to broach the subject with him.
